Expectations
At St Peter's, our expectations are rooted in our ROCK values that underpin all that we aspire to here at St Peter’s. We aim to foster high standards of academic excellence, personal growth, community engagement and spiritual development through a well-rounded education that goes beyond traditional classroom learning.
Here are our key expectations;
Respect
We expect our students to show respect for their peers, for staff and for the values that we promote. Fundamental to St Peter’s is the principle that, as Christ taught, we should treat others as we wish to be treated (Luke 6:31). This ethic is at the heart of our Behaviour Code and our pastoral work. We also teach our students the worth of self-respect. This promotes generosity, diligence, compassion and patience. In turn this leads to respect for academic honesty and integrity. We expect our students to show the utmost respect for members of other faiths and none.
Optimism
We promote the idea of a growth mindset and resilience. We want our students to know there will be times when they might not be able to do something YET but they will be able to eventually. Our sports teams, music ensembles and numerous clubs provide students with the opportunity to develop the grit and resilience needed in life and we encourage all out students to join at least one club each year. Subject specific events such as the maths challenge, geography field trips or science experiments enable our young people to develop a positive mindset about learning.
Community
We believe we grow as individuals through our relationships with one another. We grow through the super-curricula opportunities we have to develop physically (through sport), culturally (through performing arts) and through the important work we do in raising awareness and monies for those in need. We have high standards of behaviour and expect students to treat one another with courtesy and dignity. Our uniform is a mark of our common identity.
Kindness
Our identity as a community is rooted in our belief that we should always act with compassion. This is at the heart of our Catholic life and points us to the responsibility we have for others as Jesus taught in the Parable of the Good Samaritan to ‘Love our Neighbour’. This principle underpins our school life and charity work.
In summary, the expectations outlined above are designed to create a dynamic and supportive learning environment that nurtures academic achievement, personal development, and community engagement. By embracing these expectations, students at St Peter's are well-equipped to excel academically, develop into responsible and compassionate individuals, and contribute positively to the broader community.
