Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium Strategy at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic High School reflects the whole school strategy.
Our School Culture
St Peter’s is proud to be “an inclusive school that embraces tolerance, respect and kindness. The school’s culture provides it with a ‘beating heart.’” (Ofsted 2017).
This remains truer than ever. Our community is built on compassion, ambition and a deep belief that every student—whatever their starting point—deserves to thrive. We place relationships, belonging and aspiration at the centre of our work so that every learner feels known, valued and supported.
Our Philosophy
We are committed to equity, social mobility and opportunity, ensuring that all students experience the very best of what school can offer. We want every young person to develop:
- a strong sense of social responsibility,
- the confidence to take on new challenges, and
- the skills to be successful, happy learners both in school and in their future working lives
Our Context
St Peter’s serves a wide and diverse community across Gloucester, the Forest of Dean, Cheltenham and Stroud. We are a large, vibrant school of over 1,500 students, with more than 24% eligible for Pupil Premium.
We regularly review our Pupil Premium strategy, informed by data, research and the lived experiences of our students.
Our Focus
We know that strong relationships are the foundation for student success. Building on extensive research, including guidance from the EEF and two external Pupil Premium reviews, we continue to refine our approach so that support is targeted, personalised and impactful.
Our priority is to give all students equity of access—both to the curriculum and to the wider life of the school.
Our Strategic Priorities
Priority 1: Teaching and Learning
We know that excellent inclusive teaching has the greatest impact on pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds. This year we continue to:
- personalise learning through effective use of assessment and knowledge of individual needs
- support less successful learners by identifying the barriers that hold them back
- develop students’ ability to plan, monitor and evaluate their learning
- strengthen language for learning, literacy, numeracy and disciplinary vocabulary
- ensure lessons are adaptive, ambitious and focused on progress for every learner
Priority 2: Partnerships – Community, Home and School
Strong relationships with families and the wider community are essential. We are committed to:
- building on the relational strengths that define St Peter’s
- maintaining open, supportive partnerships with families
- continuing to improve communication
- enhancing attendance through early intervention and the work of our attendance officer
- improving behaviour through consistent, supportive practice
- prioritising student welfare through a strengthened Student Support Service
- widening horizons by connecting pupils with local employers and post16 providers
Priority 3: Cultural Capital, Confidence and Careers
We believe that every child should enjoy the richness of school life, regardless of their background. To ensure equity of experience, we:
- provide funded opportunities for disadvantaged students to participate fully in trips, visits and enrichment activities
- offer stretch, challenge and aspirationbuilding opportunities
- develop students’ resilience, confidence and organisation
- use our careers team’s expertise to prepare students for future pathways
- maintain a rigorous evaluation framework to ensure all additional support is purposeful, personalised and impactful
