Homework

KS3 and KS4

Homework will take two forms:

  • Consolidation homework. This will be a few questions taking approximately 10-15 mins, after most lessons, to reinforce the learning of that lesson.  This will be due by the next lesson and will be marked in class.
  • ‘Block’ homework. This will be based on a block of work previously completed, to allow for retrieval practice.  As a result, students will have longer to complete (at least one Maths lesson and a weekend) to allow them to look up work and/or ask their teachers for help.  These will be marked in class, but teachers will then review and plan follow up work as needed.

In addition to the formative assessment that takes place in lessons through use of questioning/mini whiteboards and also the homework, students will complete low stakes quizzes at the end of a block of work.

Students will also complete more formal testing in the calendared AP tests.  These will include GSCE questions on the relevant topics.

KS5

Students studying level 3 courses will need to do an hour of independent practice after each lesson.  They will be guided on what to do in this time and will self-mark this, with the opportunity to seek help as needed.  In addition, they will be given a weekly assignment, based on exam style questions which will be marked by their teacher.

Students working on improving their GCSE grade will also be set independent practice after each lesson.
