Business Studies and Economics Assessment policy

Key stage 4

The Business and Economics assessment policy is designed to be simple and easy to follow.

An Assessment booklet will be given to year 10 and year 11 students. This is separate to the exercise booklet they are given for note taking. The booklet will contain the following:

Year 10- 3 x mandatory Assessments. Plus, additional challenge tasks that students can do to further their understanding of the subject.

Year 11- 3 x mandatory Assessments. Plus, additional challenge tasks that students can do to further their understanding of the subject.

The mandatory assessments include the AP’s in line with the whole school homework policies.

These assessments will be completed under exam conditions in class. One week before each assessment, students will be given the topics to revise on show my homework. The assessments will take the form of exam style questions that they might expect in the real exams.

Key stage 5

Year 12- 4 x mandatory Assessments. Plus, additional challenge tasks that students can do to further their understanding of the subject.

Year 13- 3 x mandatory Assessments. Plus, additional challenge tasks that students can do to further their understanding of the subject.

All assessments will be sat in class after a period of one week’s preparation using given topics on show my homework.

Each assessment will be based on past paper exam questions, along with source or case study material. The Business department has developed a planning sheet that can be used by the students to prepare for each assessment.

Each student is given an exercise booklet to use as their assessment book.

In addition to these formal assessments, the students in KS5 are expected to carry out a minimum of three lessons of external reading per subject across the two-week timetable. These will take the form of research tasks using the Business/Economic review and note taking using the Cornell method.

These additional tasks will be used as student led starter activities throughout the course.
