Students at St Peters Catholic High School & Sixth Form Centre enjoy learning about experimenting with new skills and techniques in a wide range of media. Students will be taught to analyse and interpret a range of artists' work from across a range of culture, times and places.
Whilst studying GCSE Art and Design, students complete two units of work for their coursework grade. The first unit is based on Still life and develops students understanding of the work of a range of artists, develops their skills when using a diverse mix of materials and encourages students creativity when producing final outcomes. The second unit follows the same process but students choose their own theme and artists for inspiration. Students follow the AQA Art specification and to complete their externally assessed task spend 3 months researching, exploring and developing ideas, completing a final outcome in a 10 hour timed exam, split over 2 days.
Students have the opportunity to be involved in extra curricular activities and clubs across both the lower and upper school (see below).
We celebrate the success of our KS3 students through our very successful reward scheme Fab 5. We promote and celebrate students' work via the @Fab5art Instagram page. A selected number of students are rewarded each year with an art specialist activity day and/or art equipment.
KS3 Art Clubs:
Each year an artist is invited to run a full day workshop in their specialist area for selected KS4 students. The specially selected students have the chance to learn unique skills and techniques directly from a practising artist. Summer 2019 we hosted a workshop with Peter Garrard, a water colour specialist (see images below).
